MEA ESP members, Susan Knight and Jenny Higginbotham, with VEA President Meg Guber (center)

"The past few years as an MEA ESP member, I chose to become a more involved and active member of my local association. I have come to realize the importance of membership is more than the liability insurance provided. The Association on the local level, state level and the national level is our only true advocate for children, public education, educators, and ESPs! "

MEA ESP at Large board member, Jenny Higginbotham and MEA ESP  member, Susan Knight, join VEA President, Meg Gruber and several other VEA ESP leaders at the 2013 NEA Education Support Professionals (ESP) Conference held March 8–10, 2013, at the Louisville Marriott Downtown Hotel in Louisville, KY.
The conference is designed to provide professional development opportunities for participants to help them gain the skills they need to: build stronger locals, build strong internal and external relationships, organize members, and enhance NEA ESP members' ability to positively influence student achievement. A REQUEST FROM OUR NEA PRESIDENT

It’s our job as educators to ensure a positive school culture, which includes the safety of students in all public schools and college campuses.  The horrific shootings in Connecticut and California have touched off a national debate on school safety.  Legislatures across the country are racing to consider new laws without stopping to ask educators, who often risk their own safety to protect their students, what they think we need to create truly safe schools and campuses. NEA in partnership with VIVA Educators will be using WikiWisdom™, an on-line peer collaboration process, to reach out directly to NEA members, our frontline experts, to hear your ideas for improving safety for students and staff in all of our schools and public campuses. At the end of this collaboration a small group of you will present your ideas directly to me and to public officials here in Washington. We need your ideas, your classroom experience, and your participation. Share your voice. Speak out. Make change happen!
